Memorial Day 2008

I took these pictures in 1988 on the big island of Hawaii.

We were on a training mission to Pohacaloa Training Area and we happened upon an old memorial site. If I remember right, it was a helicopter crash that happened back in the late 1970's sometime, killing all aboard.

As time goes by, the memory fades and names go away. Here's to not just remembering, but honoring those who've fallen in the service of our country.

Lonely Egg

I saw a robin's egg out in the front yard today. After doing some other things and thinking about this egg on the lawn, some words came to me, and I'll probably put them to music. This is my first draft, so bear with me. Man, I still don't even have a title or a chorus or a bridge...

They Smell Beautiful

...but it's most definitely allergy season. Nothing like going around with broken glass at the back of your throat. Blech.

Ah Gots Uh Frawg In Duh Gahrdayn....

Okay, so I was watering the garden today and found a frog. Just an ordinary frog.

I'm pretty sure he's camera shy, but he posed for this shot.

And then he tried to run. RUN, I SAY!!!!

But he wasn't fast enough for THIS frog-chasin' paparazzi!

Yeah, I know. It's not easy bein' green. Heh.


Edited to say: I've just been informed that this is not a frog but a toad. I obviously had no idea. The person who gave me the info also gave me a couple of sites that give the run-down on toads and frogs here:

It's Finals Week. Blech. I'm soooooo bitter...

Yay! Caturday!!!!

It's Caturdayyyyyyy!!!!! Yeah, I've got papers to write and Finals Week starts Monday, but dagnabbit, I'm gonna' enjoy at least a li'l bit of Caturday amusement. Especially since the catz are oblivious...

This is one of the best parts of Caturday: Caturday morning breakfast!
And my Dill is finally starting to sprout!
The Rose bush is bloomin, still. I was particularly taken by this pair.
